Part One of The Metropolitan Opera Centennial Gala is the next program in the Arts on Film series, to be screened this coming Wednesday 7th November in Arts.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of New York’s Metropolitan Opera (the Met), 100 singers, 7 conductors, the Met Orchestra, Chorus and Ballet performed in two separate programs on October 22, 1983.   This first program features Joan Sutherland, Kiri Te Kanawa, Placido Domingo, Frederica Von Stade, Kathleen Battle, Mirella Freni, James Levine and many others in a spectacular concert performance.  It features highlights from operas such: Der Rosenkavalier, Otello, Romeo & Juliet, Lucia Di Lamermoor, Turandot and many more.   The second program will be screened as part of the 2013 series.

The Metropolitan Opera Centennial Gala, Part 1 commences at 12.00 noon and concludes at 1.50 pm (approx). It will be held in the Arts Listening-Viewing Room. Enter via the Arts Reading Room and Audio-visual Centre (from Trescowthick Information Centre). Admission is free. No bookings required, but come early as seating is limited. Enjoy!
