A Triple Bill featuring The Orchestra, ballet superstar Rudolf Nureyev and Australian ceramic artist Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, is the next program in the Arts on Film series to be screened this Wednesday October 16.

The Orchestra : percussion and orchestral diversity is a short film made by Classroom Video in The Orchestra series.  Through the antics of two puppet characters, Young Bobby and Strauss the conductor, we are introduced to the percussion section of the orchestra, exploring the history and playing techniques of ancient and modern day instruments.

This is followed at 12.20 pm by Rudolf Nureyev : his complete Bell Telephone Hour performances, 1962-64.  This features Nureyev’s spectacular American television debut on the Bell Telephone Hour in 1962.  Includes highlights from Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, La Esmeralda and Flower Festival in Genzano.

This is followed at 12.55 pm by Gwyn Hanssen Pigott : a potters film, a documentary about ceramic artist Gwyn Hanssen Pigott.  Gwyn is recognised as one of the world’s leading ceramic artists and is particularly well known for her series of still life collections of porcelain vessels. The film shows Gwyn making, glazing and firing her work.

The Arts Triple Bill commences at 12.00 noon and concludes at 1.30 pm (approx).  It will be held in the Community Lab.  Enter via the Arts Reading Room (from Trescowthick Information Centre). Admission is free. No bookings required, but come early as seating is limited. Enjoy!
