Graeme Murphy’s ‘Swan Lake‘ : a ballet in four acts, is the next screening in the Music and Dance on Film series to be held this Wednesday October 13.  Swan Lake is the world’s favourite ballet and acclaimed Australian choreographer, Graeme Murphy, gives his own unique interpretation of this famous story set to Tchaikovsky’s spectacular music.

Formerly of Sydney Dance Company fame, Graeme Murphy has also conceived and choreographed other works for The Australian Ballet including Nutcracker : the story of Clara, The Silver Rose and the fantastic Firebird. He will soon reinvent another ballet classic, Prokofiev’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, for the 2011 season.

Swan Lake features Madelaine Estoe as Odette, Robert Curran as Siegfried and artists of The Australian Ballet. This performance was filmed live at the Sydney Opera House, with The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Nicolette Fraillon. 

The screening commences at 12.00 and concludes at 2.15 pm (approx).  It will be held in the Arts Listening-Viewing Room.  Enter via the Arts Reading Room and Audio-Visual Centre (from Trescowthick Information Centre). Admission is free.
