The next and final program in the Music and Dance on Film series for 2011, is a new and dazzling production of Nutcracker – the ballet for the festive season.
Promising a fresh serving of the traditional Christmas fare, this version is directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne, who has achieved popular success with his reinvention of classical ballets such as Swan Lake, Cinderella and The Car Man. This performance was produced for television and features Scott Ambler & Emily Piercy. Tchaikovsky’s much-loved score is performed by the Royal Philharmonic, conducted by Brett Morris.
The story follows Clara’s journey from a bleak Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering wonderland to the spectacular candy folk of Sweetieland.
The program commences at 12.00 noon and concludes at 1.30 pm approx. It will be held in the Arts Listening-Viewing Room. Enter via the Arts Reading Room and Audio-Visual Centre (from Trescowthick Information Centre). Admission is free. No bookings required, but come early as seating is limited. Enjoy!
Programs will resume again in March 2012.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
