Ned Kelly’s armour is travelling to Beechworth for the annual Ned Kelly Weekend, Friday 6  to Sunday 8 August.

All four sets of the Kelly gang armour will be displayed during the weekend which this year commemorates the 130th anniversary of the Kelly’s committal hearing held in Beechworth from 6 to 11 August 1880.

The Ned Kelly Weekend will be packed with Kelly-related activities and attraction including:

  • a theatrical performance of Kelly’s famous Jerilderie Letter
  • the original cast of the classic TV miniseries, The Last Outlaw – including John Jarrett and Sigrid Thornton
  • walking tours of historic Beechworth sites
  • readings, re-enactments, talks and performances

From Tuesday 3 to Wednesday 11 August, the armour will not be on exhibition at the State Library.  Many Kelly materials,  however, will remain on show in the Library’s Changing Face of Victoria exhibition including:

  • the original Jerilderie Letter
  • Ned Kelly’s death mask
  • photographs of the Kelly gang’s last stand at Glenrowan
  • items recovered from an archaeological dig at the site of the Glenrowan siege
