Today we’re celebrating our younger readers at the Library for International Literacy Day, with a brand new Play Pod theme inspired by Alison Lester’s classic children’s book Are we there yet?

Play Pod is the Library’s creative play space for children under eight years. Open every day from 10am–4pm, this rich learning environment is packed with opportunities to read, create and play.

Early literacy

Centred on early literacy, all of the activities in Play Pod are drawn from the pages of Are we there yet? With the support of their parents and carers, children can go on an imaginative journey across Australia within the space: creating fireworks at the Sydney Opera House, clowning around in Luna Park, and digging for witchetty grubs at Uluru.

As well as imaginative play, children can get artistic with images from the Library’s collection or create their own papercraft firework to add to the Sydney sky.

The Library is place for all Victorians to learn – and children learn best through opportunities to play, imagine and explore.
