Today our exhibition Writing the war: Personal stories from WWI opens in the newly refurbished Palmer Hall. Writing the war shines the light of seven ordinary Australians and their extraordinary experiences of war, revealed through letters, diaries and personal photographs. The words and experiences of each person profiled in the exhibition are brought to life through stunning film and audio presentations.

The Writing the war exhibition is the first to be held in the newly refurbished Palmer Hall, which is adjacent to the Library’s main foyer. This space has been refreshed thanks to a generous donation from our board, creating a more comfortable area for visitors to have a break, check email and explore a host of new exhibitions and programs.

Writing the war: Personal stories from WWI is open until October (Monday to Thursday 10am–9pm and Friday to Sunday 10am–6pm). From August onwards the Writing the war touring exhibition will travel to Victorian public libraries and be displayed alongside WWI material from regional communities.
