State Library Victoria will be the 2016 hub for Melbourne Music Week, illuminating the city’s world-renowned music scene.

Speaking at the launch today Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle said he was “delighted to be partnering with one of the icons of Melbourne, the great State Library Victoria as our Melbourne Music Week hub for 2016.”

State Library CEO Kate Torney said “we are absolutely honored to be the hub from Melbourne Music Week and we can’t wait to make some noise.

“The Library is a vibrant gathering space for all Victorians and Melburnians and we are really trilled that this is an extension of the creativity that happens here every single day.”

Melbourne Music Week is a nine-day program dedicated to holding unique live music events in unexpected and iconic locations.

True to its reputation, Melbourne Music Week 2016 will open up the rarely-seen nooks and crannies, halls and hidden spaces within the Library – including the majestic, column-lined Queen’s Hall and the stunning domed La Trobe Reading Room.

The Library’s forecourt will host free, all-ages performances, DJ sets and fresh food offerings from 10am to 10pm during Melbourne Music Week.

Opening night in Queen’s Hall will feature an all women lineup of some of Australia’s most talented artists in Her Sound, Her Story: A Celebration of Women in Music. This program includes the diverse and celebrated voices of Julia Stone, Ella Hooper, Mama Kin, Montaigne, Mojo Juju, Ecca Vandal, Elizabeth Rose, Airling and Nyne who will perform songs spanning decades of Australia music history.

Melbourne Music Week will be held from 11 to 19 November 2016 and the full program will be announced on Tuesday 4 October.
