Applications for the 2024-2025 Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) Local History Grants Program are now open. This program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations to support the cost of projects that preserve, record or share Victorian local history.

Successful projects from past rounds have included:

  1. exhibitions
  2. multimedia projects
  3. publications
  4. oral histories
  5. digitisation projects
  6. the preservation of vital historical items

Many past recipients have used the funding to digitise newspapers from the Library’s collection. Titles now available on Trove include The Courier (Ballarat), Reporter (Box Hill), Penshurst Free Press, The Benalla Standard and The Elmore Standard.

You can apply for a grant via the PROV website, where you will also find a listing of past recipients. But first- make sure you’ve read the Application Guidelines.

If your project involves the digitising of newspapers from the State Library collection, please complete our Newspaper digitisation form. Further information about newspaper digitisation with PROV can be found on page 4 of the Application Guidelines. The Library also has a page on newspaper digitisation in our research guide.

For enquirers regarding the use of other SLV collections, please contact us.

PROV Local History Grants applications close at 11:59pm on Monday 9 December.

Good luck!
