The Music and Dance on Film series commences for 2011 this Wednesday March 30. A great lineup is scheduled for the year, beginning with this tribute to the Ballet Russe by The Australian Ballet.
Firebird & other legends, features three masterpieces danced by the Ballet Russe on their first Australian tour: Les Sylphides & Petrouchka with their original choreography by Fokine, and Firebird re-imagined by choreographer – Graeme Murphy. Music is by Chopin & Stravinsky. This production also features Lana Jones, Kevin Jackson, Marc Cassidy and artists of The Australian Ballet.
Graeme Murphy will soon reinvent another classic, Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet, for The Australian Ballet’s 2011 season. It premieres in September at The Arts Centre. Also, the exhibition Ballet Russe: The Arts of Costume, is currently on show at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, until May 1.
The Firebird & other legends screening commences at 12.00 noon and concludes at 1.45 pm (approx). It will be held in the Arts Listening-Viewing Room. Enter via the Arts Reading Room and Audio-Visual Centre (from Trescowthick Information Centre). Admission is free. No bookings required or taken, but come early as seating is limited.
