Birds of America by John James Audubon is the finest ornithological book ever produced and has pride of place in our Mirror of the world exhibition. Bound in four volumes the complete set contains 435 portraits of North American birds – each hand-painted and reproduced at life size.
While only one page of Birds of America can be displayed each year, visitors can now use an iPad to explore a full volume of this spectacular book, leaf through the pages and zoom in on images to see more detail. This interactive display of the book is available now in the Mirror of the world exhibition, along with the colourful original.
