The State Library of Victoria is saddened by the news of the passing of James Strong AO.

James Strong served as the Library’s President from 1989 to 1992.

Sue Roberts, CEO and State Librarian, said Strong would be remembered as a leader with the right mix of business acumen and passion for the arts that brought change to the way the Library considered its future.

‘Mr Strong provided positive leadership during a time where the Library was working through the beginnings of a digital future. He also provided direction to the Library to help make the shift from a government – dependant organisation to include working with business and the private sector. Everyone here at the Library joins me in sending our condolences to the Strong family during this difficult time.’
