To coincide with the theme of this year’s Family History Feast, we have released a new Family History research guide called Researching your multicultural ancestors.
The Botterri family, Bonegilla Migrant Hostel, H2002.24/1
This guide introduces you to the basic principles of family history research and lists the key resources and records available for researching your ancestors. It specifically focuses on researching ancestors that emigrated to Australia from countries other than the United Kingdom – a Researching your ancestors from the British Isles research guide will be released later this year.
The Researching your multicultural ancestor guide is not a definitive guide that lists specific resources for individual countries, rather it demonstrates how to start your research using resources available at the State Library of Victoria. It also provides advice on how to locate and access overseas collections and repositories. Navigation is easy as the guide is divided into the following sections –
- Research steps
- Finding books
- Immigration, emigration & naturalisation
- Australian archives
- eResources & websites
- Newspapers
- Family history & historical societies
- Maps
- Overseas resources
- Why can’t I find them?
In the Family History & Newspaper Room you will find a selection of titles that focus on researching specific countries and regions. Here are just a few to get you started.
