  1. Merry Christmas.

I understand/expect that the SLV would not be open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. But WHY is it closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week and then on the 2nd and 3rd of Jan. This is the time that some of us can get into the SLV.

Unfortunately, the Library’s budgetary position does not allow us to open as often as we would wish, and we are currently closed on public holidays, between Christmas and New Year, and over the Easter weekend. Our user research has shown that this pattern of closure causes less disruption to the majority of users than other options like shortening our daily opening, or closing on a regular day each week . While the closures are still very inconvenient for users, the Library maintains the most generous opening hours of all Victoria’s cultural institutions, as well as an extensive collection of online resources that can be used at any time. Even so, we understand your disappointment at not being able to visit during the Christmas period and for this we apologise.

We hope you will visit now that we are open again.

Very sorry to find the library is closed for so long. With all the family at home, I find it almost impossible to study – I was relying on the SLV as a haven in the Xmas period!
