State Library Victoria offers a rich collection of electronic resources and we add new collections throughout the year.

Our current eresource collection consists of over 267,969 full text eresources, including historic archives, multi-subject databases, popular magazines, scholarly journals, newspapers and streaming music and videos.

Most of our eresources can be accessed remotely by registered Victorian State Library members, extending access to our rich online collections to those in regional and rural Victoria.

Literary print culture: the Stationers’ Company archive

The Stationers’ Company archive is one of the most important eresources for understanding the workings of the early book trade, the printing and publishing community, the establishment of legal requirements for copyright provisions and the history of bookbinding. Explore extremely rare documents dating from 1554 to the 21st century in this invaluable resource of research material for historians and literary scholars.

Service newspapers of World War Two

Discover World War Two as told by the newspapers that brought information, entertainment and camaraderie to the forces at home and overseas. Service newspapers acted as the mouthpiece of the troops, keeping the units apprised of the general progress of the war, reporting on life back at home, encouraging discussion and intellectual improvement and offering amusing anecdotes, competitions, cartoons and entertainment. The newspapers would be shared around the units, often changing hands several times, eagerly anticipated for the morale boost and distraction from the discomforts and uncertainty of serving in war. This eresource features over 200 titles from key nations across the globe.

Drawn from hundreds of institutions and organisations, from major international bodies to local grassroots initiatives, the documents in Archives of Sexuality & Gender: LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940 illuminate the experiences of LGBTQ individuals and groups of different races, ethnicities, ages, religions, political orientations and geographical locations. This electronic archive also includes oral history transcripts, diaries, intimate correspondence and interviews that provide a deeply personal interpretation of the LGBTQ experience, putting a human face on the history of sexuality and gender.

This comprehensive archive (1897 to 2005) of the weekly British culture and lifestyle magazine, Country Life, focuses on fine art and architecture, the great country houses, and rural living. Every page is fully searchable and reproduced in full colour and high resolution. Country Life archive presents a chronicle of more than 100 years of British heritage, including its art, architecture, and landscapes, with an emphasis on leisure pursuits such as antique collecting, hunting, shooting, equestrian news, and gardening.

    How does one subscribe after the two days and what is the cost?

      The Library subscribes so there is no cost to our patrons. If you are still having problems, call the Library on 8664 7002 and a Librarian provide assistance.
