Classic film soundtracks and Broadway shows currently feature on the Listening Posts in Arts. These include new releases, limited edition archival rereleases and latest arrivals. The online catalogue indicates which Listening Post the CD is available on.
There are eight jukebox listening posts in the Arts Reading Room, where you can listen to CDs from the audiovisual collection.
The following film soundtracks contain both the complete motion picture score or additional music tracks, plus the original soundtrack release. They are valuable archival collections and a time capsule of the culture and period when released.
Burt Bacharach’s lively and tuneful score for the 1967 James Bond spoof, Casino Royale, has great support from Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass on the title track and Dusty Springfield on the chart topping hit, The Look of Love, in the ultimate rendition of the song.
Charade : complete original motion picture soundtrack. Composed and conducted by Henry Mancini.
Hatari! : music from the motion picture. Composed and conducted by Henry Mancini.
Henry Mancini’s music features on scores for, Charade, the Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant hit romantic comedy-mystery, and Hatari!, the John Wayne African adventure blockbuster. The melodic Main Title tracks, with Charade’s spirally drum beats and the safari rhythms of Hatari!, set the mood for each movie perfectly.

THX 1138 : original motion picture soundtrack. Music composed and conducted by Lalo Schifrin.
Music by Argentine pianist and composer, Lalo Schrifin, features on the pop orientated soundtrack to the legendary Steve McQueen crime action drama, Bullitt, and the ground-breaking science fiction film, THX 1138.
Anything Goes : new Broadway cast recording. Music and lyrics by Cole Porter.
Broadway musicals are represented by three shows that have seasons in Melbourne this year. Anything Goes, the new Broadway cast recording featuring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey (Cabaret), includes some great Cole Porter songs like I get a kick out of you, It’s de-lovely and You’re the top. The new Opera Australia production is currently showing at the Princess with Caroline O’Connor and Todd McKenney.
West Side Story is a new recording of the Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim classic featuring the San Francisco Symphony and soloists, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. Nice work if you can get it is the original Broadway cast recording of the musical comedy by George and Ira Gershwin. Both of these shows are also being presented by the Production Company as part of their 2015 season at the Arts Centre.
Another Bernstein musical, On the Town, is featured in a new Broadway cast recording of the musical famously adapted in the 1949 Gene Kelly-Frank Sinatra starring MGM film, and also known for it’s spectacular Jerome Robbins dance sequences. Side Show is the Broadway cast recording for the 2014 revival of a show based on the lives of 1930s stage performers, Daisy and Violet Hilton.
