Architectus, one of the design firms involved in our Vision 2020 redevelopment, are celebrating wins for two of their educational projects.
Architectus received awards in both the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Victorian Architecture Awards 2016 and the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) 2016 Australasia Awards.
The AIA awarded the Mandeville Centre the Henry Bastow Award for Educational Architecture, and a commendation in the Colobond Award for Steel Architecture.
The award jury cited: ‘Nestled in a low residential neighborhood, the Mandeville Centre has an understated presence in the streetscape. The building assumes its place on the school’s ground with great ease, while reshaping the open spaces around it and expertly negotiating a chance in level across the site. Resolving a number of circulation pathways to enable effective visitor wayfinding, it also successfully accommodated the day to day movement to staff and students.’
The A4LE commended the Mandeville Centre in Category 2 – New Construction: Major Facility, and the Gipson Commons in Category 5 – Education Initiative.
Architectus, along with Scandinavia design firm, Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, are designing the $83.1 million State Library Victoria Vision 2020 redevelopment.
Architectus is known for its delivery of complex and technically challenging projects, receiving more than 100 industry awards for work across education, public, commercial, infrastructure and transport projects.
The designers of these winning projects left Architectus long before the State Library bid.
