CEO and State Librarian Ms Sue Roberts will be retiring from her role

The State Library of Victoria announces that CEO and State Librarian Ms Sue Roberts will be retiring from her role when her contract expires on Friday, 10 April 2015 and will be available to consult with and advise the Library and its team until Tuesday, 30 June 2015, while a global search commences for a new CEO.

President of the Library Board of Victoria Mr John Wylie said, “The Library Board is enormously grateful for Sue’s leadership of the institution over the past three years. She has led a period of great progress and development at the Library.”

Mr Wylie added “Under Sue’s guidance the Library is the fastest growing state library with annual visitors, both onsite and online, growing in record numbers. Her significant achievements include the the development of a new strategic direction for the library; the delivery of outstanding exhibitions and programs; an expanded education program supporting more Victorian schools and teachers; development of a new collections strategy; and major acquisitions.”

Ms Roberts said “It has been my privilege and joy for the past three years to lead this wonderful institution and its people. Together my team and I have achieved many things of which I am immensely proud. My motivation when I joined the Library was to ensure we inspired, delighted and educated our various audiences and that we opened up the Library to the wider Victorian community. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about the next chapter of the Library’s story.”

Minister for the Creative Industries, Martin Foley MP, said “Sue Roberts is leaving an indelible mark on the Library. Under her stewardship the Library has been reinvigorated through her commitment to positive community engagement and involvement in key events such as White Night Melbourne. There has been substantial growth in the three years she has been at the helm of the Library and her contribution is very much appreciated by this Government.”

During the recruitment period and appointment of the next CEO and State Librarian for the State Library of Victoria, Ms Justine Hyde will be appointed acting CEO effective Friday, 3 April 2015.

With a strong track record in library innovation and experience in senior executive roles across a range of sectors, Ms Justine Hyde is currently the Director Library Services and Experience at the State Library of Victoria, leading the strategic direction of collections, customer services and learning programs for the Library.
